Prove It Series - Q & A

December 7, 2025 Speaker: Preaching Team Series: Prove It

Topic: Q & A Sessions Verse: 1 John 1:1– 6:13, 2 John 1:1–13, 3 John 1:1–15

The apostle John's letters provide essential guidance for believers seeking to live authentically in their faith through practical love, truth, and community engagement. Understanding the distinction between fearing God and being afraid forms a crucial foundation - the fear of the Lord represents reverent awe and respect for God's holiness that leads to wisdom and righteous living, while the fear that love casts out is anxious dread about punishment or harm. When believers truly grasp God's perfect love and live obediently, this eliminates the need for fearful anxiety about their relationship with Him.

Abiding in Christ requires ongoing relational connection rather than a one-time commitment, much like a tree branch staying connected to its source of nutrients. Practical abiding involves regular engagement with Scripture, consistent prayer as ongoing communication, authentic participation in Christian community, and quick repentance when the Holy Spirit brings conviction. The evidence of true abiding appears through spiritual fruit - joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control - qualities that cannot be produced through human effort alone but flow naturally from staying connected to Christ.

While Scripture commands love for everyone, this doesn't require friendship with everyone, as friendship involves closeness and mutual influence that should be carefully chosen. Loving wisely sometimes means setting healthy boundaries and following biblical principles for confrontation when dealing with repeated offenses or harmful behavior. The church's approach to sexual purity should move beyond prohibition to explanation, helping people understand God's good design for sexuality while creating safe spaces for honest conversation about normal struggles. Habitual sin creates spiritual separation and numbness, making community engagement and spiritual disciplines essential for restoration and authentic relationship with Christ.
