What Are You Known For?

Topic: Kingdom Character Verse: 3 John 1:5–8
Your reputation serves as your witness before a watching world, making it far more significant than personal preference or image management. The Bible teaches that a good name is more valuable than great riches, and leaders throughout Scripture were chosen based on their reputations. People often form opinions about Jesus based on what they observe in believers' lives before they ever hear the gospel message directly.
The apostle John's letter to Gaius provides a compelling case study of three men with distinctly different reputations. Gaius was known for walking in truth and demonstrating love through action, particularly his hospitality and support for traveling missionaries. Demetrius had earned such a solid reputation that everyone, including mature leaders, could vouch for his character and biblical alignment. In stark contrast, Diotrephes was known for pride, arrogance, and divisive behavior that actually hindered the gospel's advancement.Building a reputation that honors God requires intentional effort in two key areas: doing excellent work and being trustworthy.
In a workplace where only 30% of employees are truly engaged, believers have an incredible opportunity to stand out through diligence, positive attitudes, and consistent excellence. Trustworthiness develops through everyday faithfulness, keeping doctrine and life connected, and welcoming accountability from mature believers. Your reputation isn't just about you—it's about creating credibility for the gospel message and opening doors for meaningful conversations about faith.
