Walking in Christ - A Call to Obedience and Fellowship
April 6, 2025 Speaker: Dr. Abimbola Afolabi Series: Prove It
Verse: 1 John 2:1–6
Living out authentic Christian faith involves understanding the delicate balance between acknowledging our ongoing struggle with sin while pursuing genuine transformation. While God desires us to avoid sin, the reality is that believers still face this challenge. The key distinction lies not in achieving perfect sinlessness, but in demonstrating a pattern of sinning less as we grow in our relationship with Christ. Jesus serves as our perpetual advocate before God the Father, presenting His sacrifice as complete payment for our transgressions. This advocacy is continuously available to all believers, covering past, present, and future sins.
The evidence of genuine fellowship with God manifests through concrete actions and lifestyle choices. This includes consistent obedience to His commands, intentionally following Jesus's example, and displaying observable changes in behavior that others can notice. Many believers struggle with either being too lenient or too severe regarding sin, focusing solely on external behaviors while neglecting internal attitudes, or attempting to earn God's favor through performance rather than accepting His grace.
